Minister of Justice and Attorney General Delivers Keynote Address at One Day Dialogue Organized by UN Office High Commission for Human Rights
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 delivered the Keynote Address at a one-day dialogue organized by the UN Office High Commission for Human Rights at the Monrovia City Hall on the Theme: Dialogue for Stronger National and Regional Collaboration for Enhanced Human Rights Advocacy and Fight against Corruption.
This dialogue was organized as a collaborative effort between Liberia and Sierra Leone to discuss the challenges that corruption poses in the abuse of human rights.
The program commenced with welcome remarks and overview by Christian Musako, Country Representative , OHCHR, Liberia.
Mr. Musako explained that a team from Liberia visited Sierra Leone in May, 2024 on an exchange visit which was aimed at exploring shared experiences between the two countries. He further explained that the dialogue would set the basis for creating a framework that both countries can use in the fight against corruption and the effects it has on human rights.
Also making special remarks at the program were, Cllr. Alexandra Zoe, Executive Chairperson, Liberia Anti- Corruption Commission, Cllr. T. Dempster Brown, Chairperson, Independent Human Rights Commission, Liberia; Cllr. Francis Ben Kiafala, Chairperson, Anti-Corruption Commission, Sierra Leone; Madam Patricia Narsu Ndanema, Chairperson, Human Rights Commission, Sierra Leone and Madam Christine Umutoni ,UN Resident Coordinator.
The Attorney General, in his keynote address mentioned that this dialogue was pivotal at this time in both countries history as the paths of human rights and corruption converge to discuss strategies and craft mechanisms that would bring about the greater good of the people of Liberia and Sierra Leone.
