Several inmates benefit from Rehabilitation Program at the Monrovia Central Prison

About forty six (46) inmates, seven of whom are females have graduated from the rehabilitation program at the Monrovia Central Prison (MPC) as part of efforts to acquire marketable skills that will enhance their livelihoods following their respective jail sentences, as they pledged to be changed agents in the society.

They were initially 60 inmates, forty-four (44) males and sixteen (16) females recruited but others were released, thereby preventing them from completing the program.

The graduation of the forty-six (46) is part of celebration of the 6th Hope Event, a segment of the Hope for Brighter Future Project of Samaritan's Purse International Relief- Liberia.

Samaritan's Purse is a major partner and is undertaking rehabilitation programs at various prison facilities across Liberia.
During the graduation ceremony, each of the beneficiaries was certificated and given a Holy Bible as a guide for their new beginning even though they are still in custody as inmates for acts that contravene the laws of Liberia.

The colorful ceremony was graced by Assistant Justice Minister for Correction and Rehabilitation, Atty. Gabriel F. Ndupellar who pledged the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Natu Oswald Tweh and the Government of Liberia’s willingness in changing the narratives of prisoners across the Country.

Assistant Minister Ndupellar intimated that National Government is responsible for prisoners’ rights, rehabilitation and reintegration into society, stating that the Government has done so much with its meager resources which cannot do everything as such, the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation under his guidance will graciously partner with organizations like Samaritan's Purse and others in giving their best to reform the prison system.

Others in attendance at the event were; the Country Director, Deputy Country Director, Project Director and Mission Aviation Services Director all of Samaritan's Purse while the Bureau of Corrections and Rehabilitation was represented by Assistant Directors of Prisons, Coordinator of Rehabilitation and Senior Staff in addition to the Assistant Minister.
