A 3-Day Training Workshop for Prosecutors/County Attorneys Concludes in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County: Solicitor General of Liberia, Cllr. Augustine C. Fayiah, Urges Prosecutors to Take Advantage

The three (3) days refresher training seminar for prosecutors/ County Attorneys from the fifteen (15) Counties of Liberia commenced on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 through Friday, November 8, 2024 in the Port City of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Cllr. Augustine C. Fayiah, Solicitor General of the Republic of Liberia, speaking at the start of the Workshop admonished the participants or prosecutors/ County Attorneys to always take advantage of these training opportunities because refreshers are important in ensuring that the people of the society live in peace, and avoid coming in conflict with the law.

Cllr. Fayiah particularly lauded the International partners of the Ministry of Justice including the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), United Nations Development Programs (UNDP) among others for the tremendous support provided the Ministry over the years.

He said, the Ministry of Justice plays a pivotal role in upholding the rule of Law in the Country.

Assistant Minister for Litigation at the Ministry of Justice, Cllr. Jerry D.K. Garlawolu in the overview of the Workshop, drilled the participants through the various topics; Scope of Trafficking in Person (TIPS), investigative strategies of Human trafficking-legal and regulatory framework, , rape law and sexual offences, felonious crimes, overview of financial crimes, post and pre-trial motion etc.

According to Cllr. Garlawolu, these topics were cleverly selected to enable the facilitators provide in-depth knowledge to the prosecutors/ County Attorneys.

“While you are the experts, it is important to always refresh your minds on these topics which makes our profession, the practice of law. This profession is a continued process that enables us to learn every day”.

The Minister of Justice/ Attorney General of Liberia, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh was represented at the three (3) days intensive training Workshop by the Deputy Minister for Codification at the Ministry of Justice, Cllr. Cora N. Hare- Konuwa, who challenged the prosecutors/County Attorneys to always take advantage and interest in trainings that will set them apart.

“Our international partners are doing well for us in the Justice system and it is on us to grab every bid of these opportunities to improve the justice system of our Country”.

The three (3) days event is supported by the International Development Organization (IDLO) under the Improving Justice Chain Project funded by the U.S. Department Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
