Aggrieved former officers of the Executive Protection Agency (EPS) on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, barricade the entrance of the Ministry of Justice in demand of benefits as Justice Minister and Attorney General of Liberia, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh assures them of Government’s commitment to settle their benefits but warns them to desist from violence.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Liberia, Cllr. Natu Oswald Tweh, has assured officers of the Executive Protection Services (EPS) who were laid-off for not meeting the standards of the Service, and are demanding benefits, that the Government of Liberia is working diligently to resolve the matter.
According to Cllr. Tweh, the ex-EPS agents must remain patient as the Government of Liberia makes frantic efforts to resolve the matter, cautioning them to remain peaceful and avoid engaging in acts that will undermine the fragile and stability of the Nation.
“I am currently in the process of engaging the relevant authorities to address the situation”, the Attorney General told the former EPS agents during a meeting in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Justice in Sinkor, Monrovia, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
The over two hundred aggrieved former EPS Agents on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, barricaded the entrance of the Ministry in demand of benefits since they were laid-off from the EPS for their inability to meet the required criteria for personnel of the EPS nearly seven (7) months ago.
They appealed to Minister Tweh and his officials to attach urgency to resolving the situation because their case borders on national security matter, warning that they are running out of patience.
Minister Tweh told the aggrieved former EPS personnel that while he is aware of the harsh economic situation in the Country especially with the reopening of schools, where parents are under pressure to enroll their children, they should remain calm and await the Government to amicably settle their problem.
He said, with the coming into play of a new government headed by His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., it is imperative that every Liberian keeps the Country peaceful to attract investors and desist from engaging into acts that will further drive away potential investors from the Country. He further stated that the Government of Liberia will not hesitate to enforce the law in the event of any violation of the law, including breach of the peace, illegal restriction of the free movement of cars and people, setting up of roadblocks, among others.
